Prostate Care Basics: This all-natural dietary supplement claims to reduce urinary problems caused by an enlarged prostate, better known as benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). According to their website, 96% of men who took Prostate Care on a regular basis experienced a decrease in BPH symptoms, which included painful urination, weak stream, frequent urges to urinate, and incomplete emptying of the bladder. But that's not all, says Prostate Care. It also improves sexual function, including sexual performance and libido.

Ingredients: Prostate Care contains beta-sitosterol, lycopene, zinc, selenium and bioperine.

Does it Work? Yes, but not from its most likely source. Most of its proven benefits are found in zinc and lycopene, which are packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants. Lycopene was shown to inhibit tumor growth caused by cancer in several studies, and may reduce a man's risk for developing prostate cancer. Zinc affects the prostate by slowing down the development of prostate cancer, reducing tumor growth and the spread of cancer cells. Even the American Cancer Society supports the notion that lycopene and zinc may be suitable supplements for lowering the risk of prostate cancer, if used with other preventative measures.

So what's the catch? Both of these ingredients only reduce the impact of abnormal cell growth inside the prostate. It won't improve non-cancerous problems, such as BPH. This also means it can't reduce problems caused by an enlarged prostate, such as urinary difficulty and incomplete bladder emptying. But don't count out the power of these ingredients: reducing your risk for prostate cancer is just as important as BPH.

Is it Safe? Yes. There may be some contraindications when used with other prostate prescription drugs, so avoid using both at the same time.

Grade: B. Both zinc and lycopene can help reduce your risk for prostate cancer, one of the most prevalent cancers in the United States. Don't expect an increase in non-cancerous prostate problems, though these ingredients are designed to do that. Prostate Care is an excellent product with no known side effects, and is ideal for everyday supplementation.
